Violent attack at HMP Holme House. Teesside

Violent attack at HMP Holme House Teesside. The incident took place about 2.30pm on Sunday and officers, fearing for the safety of all concerned, drew their batons. An officer was allegedly attacked by a visitor trying to pass drugs to an inmate in an area packed with families. It is claimed the man scalded the officer’s face with coffee and in the scuffle which followed the officer suffered a suspected broken hand when violence erupted in Holme House prison. The drug mule and two other visitors unsuccessfully incited other prisoners and visitors to raise the level of violence they have been banned from further visits. The inmate managed to swallow the unidentified drugs in the disturbance and is now detained in segregation in another prison.Holme House governor Matt Spencer, said: Our concern was the visitor was fighting the officer while there were young children visiting.Visitors bringing in drugs for prisoners is an almost weekly occurrence
A 30-year-old man arrested for allegedly assaulting the officer with coffee has been released on bail until early next month. The other two men arrested on suspicion of a public order offence have been released without charge.
