Arrested Venezuelan General Hugo Carvajal narco arrest order from U.S Government.

Sudan 'apostasy' woman Meriam Yahia Ibrahim flies to Italy

 

A Sudanese woman who was spared a death sentence for renouncing Islam has flown to Italy after more than a month in the US embassy in Khartoum. Meriam Yahia Ibrahim Ishag and her family flew on an Italian government plane, accompanied by Italian minister Lapo Pistelli. Her father is Muslim so according to Sudan's version of Islamic law she is also Muslim and cannot convert. She was raised by her Christian mother and says she has never been Muslim. Mr Pistelli, Italy's vice-minister for foreign affairs, posted a photo of himself with Mrs Ibrahim and her children on his Facebook account as they were about to land in Rome. "Mission accomplished," he wrote.

Convictions up 31% for violence in the home

CONVICTIONS for domestic violence rose by 31 per cent in Devon and Cornwall last year, according to new figures from the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS). In all, 1,358 people were successfully prosecuted in 2013-14, compared to 1,036 the previous year. The success rate rose by 3.3 per cent to 78.5 per cent. Guilty verdicts for violent offenders targeting women and girls rose from 1,254 to 1,565 during the same period. Successful rape prosecutions fell from 74 to 62 while convictions for other sexual offences rose from 144 to 145. The findings of the 2013-14 CPS Violence Against Women and Girls Crime Report showed that nationally, a record three in four prosecutions for domestic violence resulted in a conviction last year.

Appeals court upholds convictions in oil scam

A federal appeals court has upheld the convictions of two men who ran an oil-and-gas drilling scheme in which investors lost millions of dollars. The U.S. 6th Circuit Court of Appeals found no mistakes in the handling of the cases of 51-year-old former attorney Bryan Coffman and 60-year-old Tennessee businessman Gary Moss Milby. Both men were convicted in May 2011 of multiple charges of mail, wire and securities fraud. Coffman and Milby were also ordered to forfeit $33 million in cash, cars and property. During the trial that lasted nearly a month, prosecutors characterized the investments as operating like a pyramid scheme with payments from new investors being given in small amounts to longer-term investors with some people receiving no money at all.
