Peter Barry supplied heroin to escape his debts to other drug dealers has been jailed for more than five years.Peter Barry was sentenced at Lancaster Crown Court on Friday after police officers found £1,700 worth of the Class A drug in his Westway home last August. The 39-year-old was arrested on October 1, and during a police interview admitted he had been supplying drugs in the area for four months.Barry, who has previous convictions for Class A drugs offences, told police he had been supplying drugs because he was in debt to dealers in Liverpool.
He pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply a controlled drug and was jailed for five years and eight months.
Barry’s partner, Dawn James, also appeared at Lancaster Crown Court on Friday.
She pleaded guilty to the same charge and was given a four-month prison sentence, suspended for two years.
Detective Sergeant Mike Brown, from the South Area Drugs and Pro-active Team, said: “This is a case involving another two people who have been caught supplying and possessing Class A drugs.
“One of them has received a substantial sentence and to reiterate, these sentences are handed out regularly for involvement in supplying Class A drugs.
“Barry has been convicted of drug offences on three occasions. Anyone convicted on three occasions gets a mandatory seven year sentence.
“However, due to the fact Barry gave an early guilty plea, the sentence was reduced to five years and eight months.”
